A Love Letter: There is Magic Happening Right in Front of You

Published 6/20/25

There's been a lot of transitions these last few weeks, big and small! Graduations, summer starting, and honestly even the little micro-transitions like going from the car to the house demand some intention and effort to process. But when the dust settles and you fall into a routine (even a chaotic one), suddenly there's a little space to think.

And I've been thinking about magic lately—not the kind with fireworks and fanfare, but the quiet kind that happens when nobody's watching.

Last week, I found myself trying to do my hair with my curling iron that's on the fritz so I could get to a podcast recording. Meanwhile, I was simultaneously closing a million cupboards (why can't kids close cupboards!?) and picking up tiny stray socks from my cute granddaughter. All while packing a bag for Nate and me to escape to his business school reunion for the weekend.

It's funny how everyday tasks can turn into chaos sometimes.

It wasn't an Instagram-worthy morning. No perfect lighting, no special moment—just open cupboards, stray socks, and a burnt-out curling iron. But here's what I realized: it was all evidence of a beautiful life.

We spend so much time chasing the big milestones and special moments—first steps, graduations, family vacations—that we can miss the quiet magic happening right in front of us.

The Tuesday night dinners where everyone happens to show up. The bedtime story that gets requested "one more time" for the hundredth night in a row. My adult children are still coming home and leaving cupboards open. A new generation of tiny socks to pick up.

This is it! This is what I fought for.

This summer, as routines shift and everything feels a little upside down, I want to remind you: the magic isn't in the perfect family vacation or the Pinterest-worthy activities. It's in showing up. It's in the mess. It's in the chaos. It's in your home.

Your effort matters. These moments make a life.
